Netscape is running a survey to find out what the 10 biggest stories of 2003 were. They list 30 stories and you drag medals of 1-10 to each story.
My choices were:
- Supreme Court Strikes Down Ban on Gay Sex
- California Recall
- Anglicans split on Gay Bishop
- Mass. Court allows Gay Marriage
- Sars Epidemic
- Blackout Hits U.S.
- 10 Commandments Judge removed
- Columbia Disaster
- Elizabeth Smart victim of kidnapping rescued
- California Wildfires
Now I admit to skipping things referring to Iraq, Terrorism, etc… To me, these stories had the biggest impact in my life. So I may be self centered in my choices.
Here are the results so far by people who have done the survey:
- War In Iraq, Occupation is difficult.
- Columbia Disaster
- Elizabeth Smart victim of kidnapping rescued
- California Recall
- Sars Epidemic
- California Wildfires
- Jessical Lynch Captured
- D.C. Sniper Suspects on trial
- Hunt for Al-Qaida Leaders
- Blackout Hits U.S.
Which to me seems to indicate that news readers on CNN/Netscape think that War internationally is more newsworthy than domestic rights of the individual.
So… what do you think were the top stories of 2003?
« Holiday spirit, have it your way… Romper Room: So, who do I see in my magickal mirror? »
First of all, how can they not include Saddam’s capture in the list of possible nominees??
missed items
I was actually contemplating that myself. Granted, I also was thinking about the El-al shooting in LAX over July 4 weekend. (I think that’s when it was)
BTW: I love that icon.
Re: missed items
Yes, it was 7/4 because I was in LA when it happened. But it didn’t seem like such a huge news story to me compared to some other stuff. If there’d been an al-Qaeda connection maybe.
Thanks for the compliment on the icon! I just wish I could actually do that position! 😉
They seem to have chosen a microscopic font for their mostly-graphics interface, and I can’t identify the stories to rate them. Do you know if there’s a friendlier interface somewhere on their web site? (Can’t read the instructions either — same unfriendly size.)
