{"id":1513,"date":"2005-06-16T09:34:00","date_gmt":"2005-06-16T15:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lordandrei.com\/blog\/?p=1513"},"modified":"2005-06-16T09:34:00","modified_gmt":"2005-06-16T15:34:00","slug":"memetime-music-redux-ahead-of-their-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.lordandrei.com\/blog\/2005\/06\/16\/memetime-music-redux-ahead-of-their-time\/","title":{"rendered":"MEMETime: (Music) Redux&#8230; Ahead of their time&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I got a load of responses to the following:<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/lordandrei\/352351.html\">name as many bands as you can that you felt were<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ahead of their time\n<\/li>\n<li>Really great\n<\/li>\n<li>didn&#8217;t make it big with the masses at the time of their release<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Below the cut is a list of people came up with, along with some comments:<br \/>\n<!--more which bands were they?--><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/lordandrei\/352351.html\">unscreened the comments<\/a> from people. Several made some great commentary on their band choices. I also have to really thank <a href=\"http:\/\/elqahar.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">elqahar<\/a> who absolutely went to town.<\/p>\n<p>Firstoff, I had a few that I think while ahead of their time did carry a strong following when they were actively producing music:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Queen\n<\/li>\n<li>Living Colour\n<\/li>\n<li>Yes\n<\/li>\n<li>Earth, Wind and Fire\n<\/li>\n<li>Chicago (I-IV)\n<\/li>\n<li>Steppenwolf (esp. Steppenwolf Second and Monster<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The next one took me some contemplation:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monkees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This one was supplied by <a href=\"http:\/\/mr_dark.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">mr_dark<\/a>. Upon thought and contemplation, I really have to agree with him. This was a group that had some sense of direction and progressiveness once they started doing their own thing. Problem for them is that their <i>fans<\/i> were programmed by the industry that carved out the pop version of the group.<\/p>\n<p>As for the bands that people suggested that I think fit all three criteria, here&#8217;s the full list.
