From Perforce<\/a> in Alameda I got the following message:<\/p>\n Thank you for taking the time to interview for the Sr. Software Engineer position at Perforce. It was a pleasure to meet you and discuss your background.<\/p>\n We have reviewed your qualifications against our current staffing needs. Although we were impressed with your credentials, we cannot offer you a position at this time.<\/p>\n We appreciate your interest in Perforce and wish you success in your job search.<\/i><\/p>\n Personally, I think there were some contributing factors.<\/p>\n 1) I asked for more money that they were willing to pay and they thought “It’s not worth haggling”<\/p>\n 2) I was actually over qualified for the position and they thought, “This is not the job for him and we don’t have any team management positions available. The job will stifle him.<\/p>\n 3) They read my journal (waves to nice people at perforce) and realized that I’m just to grounded in So Cal to make an offer to make me move.<\/p>\n I liked the company alot. I have no bad feelings towards them. And I have to admit, it was very hard to shake the aura of “I love this place” that I put on for an interview. The place was a very welcome change after the grind of SYMC. I would consider keeping an application on file there if something more fitting at a higher scale came my way.<\/p>\n I think it was a good exercise in interviewing which I’ve not had to do since the beginning of 2001. I think it proved to me that I know where I really want to be geographically for now. (No disrespect meant to the people in or the area of the SF Bay. I really do like it there. For visits…)<\/p>\n I think the decision is fair. I wish I could call up and ask, so was that the reason, so I could be better prepared for the next one. But such isn’t always the way business works<\/p>\n I am going to push harder in the L.A. metro area and even start considering going back into business for myself. Some have seen that Apolo<\/a> is beginning to slowly look like a web site again. Maybe this is the time to return to something more theatrical…<\/p>\n Time will have to tell. :-\/<\/p>\n
