Archive for August, 2008

aiden_freeman has a penchant for waking up 2-3 times throughout the night. Normally the first few times I go in his room, play him some music, maybe change him or give him some water, and let him zone out on his swimming fish night light.

About 10 minutes ago, while trying to get Aiden back down there was a huge Bang from outside. And then it got DARK. I mean, Seattle in November, dark.

It looks like a huge power grid stretching about 20 avenues east-west and about 40 streets north-south lost a main transformer. And the fun of it all.. My house is pretty much in the dead center of the grid.

No lights, no phone, (no motorcar?)….

My apologies to all Apolo customers, but even the UPS isn’t saving this as the network backbone is all the way down to the router.

So, what do you do when there is NO electricity? Well, you post to live journal.

Currently my laptop has 2 hrs of battery life. My portable wifi seems to be showing that at least the local AT&T tower has backup generators… so I can haz net for one.

I’d crash.. but until I recharge my cell for about 20 minutes off that slowly ebbing laptop.. I don’t even have a reliable alarm clock for the morning.

Fun, Fun, Fun, in the Dark, Dark, Dark

Whisky Tango F**K!!!!!

Today… Apple stock took a dive at 3pm eastern. It wasn’t a big dive… just the one where everyone tries to make some day trading profit off of some bad news.

Today’s news came from the Associated Press by way of Forbes magazine.

The only problem. The news story (despite being about Apple and McDonalds) had NOTHING to do with Apple, Inc.

The story follows:

Where to start? Where to start? So much would take more than a day.

First and foremost the elimination of all consensual vice crimes.

Gambling and Prostitution would be regulated and taxed. The moneys from the taxes would provide financial support for proper addiction programs and health screening for sex workers. Additional taxes raised would be used to contribute to the economic and social care of the areas where sponsored agencies of Gambling and prostitution lived.

This would in turn reduce organized crime in these sectors.

Second.. I would close BATF.

I would establish the following Agencies
Armaments and Weaponry. This agency would tax weaponry. Guns, swords, knives.
Background checks and registration of weapons considered potentially dangerous on a large scale.
Taxes would be used to promote positive education on weaponry use and respect. Taxes would also be used to clean up the registration process.

The FDA would be expanded to include the departments of:
Inhalables, Injectables, Consumables
A large scale effort would go into the process of rescheduling all food and drugs.
Currently illegal substances would be decriminilized but heftily taxed.
Proper education and addiction programs would be established.

Third: Motor Vehicle training would no longer be a joke.

Even the smallest car is a weapon potentially more dangerous that a pistol. All drivers would have a higher class of training and testing. Add on training would be available to certify in Higher speeds and multi tasking.

Fourth… I would flip the tax system.

We tend to pay 1% to the city, 2-3% to the county, 3-6% to the state, and 15-28% to the country.

This seems absolutely backwards.

The essential things our taxes should pay for should be on the local level.
Fire, Police, Schools, Infrastructure.

Louisiana shouldn’t have had to beg for money for Levies any more than Seattle should have to beg to fix the viaduct.

Driving violations are just over glorified taxation income to pay for police at this point. King county is more serious at jailing someone wanted on bench warrant for missing a mismailed summons for unpaid parking violations than tracking down violent crime offenders.

Your township would get the bulk of your tax money and it would feedback into where you live. You don’t get good enough service… you move somewhere else. And you take your tax funds with you.

The federal government should be protecting my borders, not defending me from which of my neighbors want to sleep together.

We’re now into the final 100 days before our next election.

This is the time when the ads begin to make you really desire to throw your hands up in disgust and let the system brow beat us into an administration we can’t support.

I’m standing in support of Barack Obama.

Obama is striving to run a campaign based on issues. Money is being raised from individual contributors only.
Commercials are focused on defending his platform.

Over 2 million voters are supporting Obama financially. Frankly, this is unheard of for any candidate in a presidential election.

But the process takes repeat support.

Even if you can only donate $5. It helps.
Even if you’ve donated before… It helps.

No matter what happens, stay active. Stay focussed. And don’t let the legislators be the one to decide who our next president is.

I urge you to take a moment and look at my fundraising page

All money raised goes directly to Obama’s election campaign.

Thank you.
