I’ve been using a service called evite. Personally, I think I’m going to drop it entirely.
I don’t know if it’s the delivery mechanism, but it would seem that typically 75% of my recipients either don’t get the emails or don’t read them.
Of the remaining 25%, half tend not to use the web site.
Now of course I have no way of knowing if it is the email, the web site, or just people’s personal opinion.
But regardless.
evite? More hassle and hinderance than help.

I haven’t seen its output recently, but at one point the announcements they sent out did not support plain text (rant rant RFC 822 mumble rant), so any time someone sent me one I had to write back and say “huh?”. More recently, SpamAssassin was labelling them as spam for some reason. Haven’t knowingly received one in at least a year, though, so this data may be stale.
Yeah, I agree with you. I have some pretty complex procmail recipes. Anything remotely HTML-based gets sorted. 🙂
I know a lot of email programs mark evite as spam unless specifically told otherwise. I’ve missed a few because of that.
eVite
I’ve been using it for several years now; I have had to copy the folks at work, because the mail gateway SpamAssassin kills them off regularly. I could use the Yahoo invites, I suppose, but it’s a pain because of the facility of the eVite services — who’s bringing what, who needs crash space, etc. You can even collect money via Paypal. But the SPAM problem is getting annoying.
It does seem that a lot of spam blockers block the email. It has worked ok so far for me though, so I’m gonna stick with it for now.

I don’t use evite, but I’ve gotten a few invitations from there, and I dislike it simply because I read email from a text interface, and I tend to put off anything that requires me to open another program to read, like pictures, documents, web pages, etc. Which means I have no idea what the invitation is about until I get some time to sit down and go through all that stuff. At least once, I forgot about it and didn’t read the invitation until after the party had happened.
