The fun is the Comic Book Superhero Character Generator

This will waste about 10 minutes of your time… But a FUN waste.

And this is my superhero 🙂

A few years ago I had the privilege of having as a co-worker Jesse Brown the founder of now defunct MacMarines. The site was designed for hard core evangelism of the Macintosh platform.

Every now and then, I find a need to put on the hat of evangelism. One of the sites I frequent is Pogo.com. Pogo offers java based games that are supported on the Mac as well as the Windows platform… Well, they were. Recently, less and less of their games actually load up on the Mac. Sometimes they freeze, sometimes, they bail to an error page… sometimes they take Safari down in a cloud of smoke.

So, I decided to file a tech support request. I figured, “Game don’t work. You fix!”(sic)

I got back an automated faq that of course prompted me to once again put on the hat of Evangelist and lay into another arm of the already frenetic EA games. I encourage any Mac Pogo users to politely file bugs on any and _all_ games that you find aren’t loading.

I will keep a running status of the progress of this issue. I don’t really expect the issue to get resolved in anything like a timely fashion… but it’s always nice to at least try.

This is the current status of the process.

We have a plumbing issue. So this morning I will find myself working from home. I went to the roto-rooter website. We had much luck with them a few months ago when our shower nozzles weren’t shutting off.

It’s a well designed site with an online scheduling program that often lets you get a plumber out on the same day.

Today, however, there was something I hadn’t noticed on the site before. On the web menu bar was the usual, “Company, services, products, employment…” (Who ever thought a plumber would go to the Web site to look at open positions? But then, there it was: “Fun and Games”

That’s right. The Roto-Rooter website has a link for Roto-Rooter fun and games. Let me say this one more time: The company that gave massive sewage problems a fun jingle now has a fun-and-games section on their website.

Does this twindle anyone else and the base of the neck as just seeming very wrong. I mean this is my uncanny-valley sensor going of. I’ve got the voice of Hank Hill in my head saying, “That’s just not right.”

So, I clicked the link for RR’s Fun and Games. I was presented with a page of trivia concerning different names for the ‘Necessarium’ And how the ‘bathroom tissue’ equivalent once was a mussel shell. There were additional pages on history and of course Thomas Crapper. But the highlight was the game. Yup. A java applet of “Pipe Dream”

So, how many people are now waiting for an interactive web site for their local bail-bondsman or pawnshop?

Invader Zim is Matzo-brie

Please note, brie is a Jewish word and this is pronounced bry
(not brie like cheese, as many Jews are lactose intolerant and can’t eat brie)

Let me explain… No there is too much, I will sum up…

I am having a nice night of tivo and Adult Swim at home with the shimmeringjemmy. We watched The Gilligan’s Island embarassment where we happily wished death upon the closed minded, homophobic, bitch of a poseur to the upper class. We then watched “Princess Bride” which explains my earlier comment. Next up we caught an episode of “Venture Brothers” on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network.

Venture Brothers can only be described as “Johnny Quest” meets “Drawn Together” meets “Sealab 2121” Take it from there. Very f&#^ed up. But funny. The evil villianess mercenary was named Molotoff Cocktease.

Oh, yes… What the hell does this have to do with Invader Zim being Matzo-brie? (This question posed by shimmeringjemmy when she saw how far off the topic I’d gotten already.

Years ago I introduced some friends to Matzo-Brie. This is a passover dish you make to delude yourself that you aren’t really starving yourself for a week of starch. It is effectively a crushed matzo and egg pancake..err pie… err omlette…err… it’s matzo-brie.

I served a piece to people and asked what they thought of the vaguely tasteless culinary threat. After one bite one person paused and said, “You know.. I honestly don’t know. Let me take another bite.” And then he finished the wedge. After the pie-like wedge I asked again. he still wasn’t sure. So, I served another round to the unwitting fools….. to my sample audience.

And then another matzo-brie was made. After two of the unholy wheels of crushed meal, my less than satiated gourmands were still utterly perplexed. They neither hated it nor liked it. But they were continually willing to endure more.

And this dear readers was my realization as I started another episode about a little triangle-headed alien and its psychotically broken service robot. I looked at shimmeringjemmy and said… I just don’t know. There are parts I find very funny. There are parts that just don’t work for me. And I can’t put my finger on what either are.

Dear readers…. Invader Zim is Matzo-brie…

Have a taste and see for yourself.

Please note… shimmeringjemmy just patted me on the head in that wonderfully condescending way that has become ironic humour in our household. This is only fitting as it occured in the episode of “Venture Brothers” causing us both to stop and guffaw. I now show the article to her for her pedantic thumbs-up of approval.

Good night and have a pleasant tomorr…. OH MY GODS! WHAT’S THAT?!?!?!?!?

Just kidding.

I love my Mac
