American Taliban Fighter Walker: “I Thought This Was the SCA”

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN (DPI) – John Walker, the American discovered fighting with Taliban forces last week, is now claiming that he thought he had joined the Society for Creative Anachronism, whose members perform re-creations of historical events. “Honestly, I thought we were just doing a Middle Eastern medieval re-creation or something,” Walker said. “I was talking with Sunshine Garcia about an upcoming Renaissance Fair up in Monterey and she was telling me about this totally backward group of people she came across in Mill Valley that was so completely into ‘archaic lifestyles,’ so I thought I would check it out.” John Ashcroft was unconvinced, responding, “Tell it to the chair, Dead Man Walking.”

I’m watching VH1’s video only channel. (Digital cable)

They are showing the video for “And We Danced” by the Hooters.

The video shows the band going to attend and play at a local drive in. You can clearly see the sign for the “Exton Drive In” As the video was made there. Now granted the video was made in the mid 80’s (No guys, I’m not going to pour off year and record company) and I stopped going to that drivein when we moved away in 1979. Happily, drive in’s don’t really ever change.

I’m fond of this video because this is the drive in that I went to as a kid. I don’t remember buch of life before I was 10 for some reason; but I firmly remember that drive in. It’s where I saw Mary Poppins, Phantasm, and a whole bunch of other films. I remember the swingset (that appears in the video).

It’s a wonderful piece of nostalgia that pops up on TV from time to time.

If anyone else has that kind of nostalgia that exists in video or film form….please feel free to share.

This entry is a work in progress. I’ve started to start this post several times and stopped starting and then restarted. ( I remember some reference in the mis-named Hitchhiker trilogy along these lines.)
So…I decided to stop starting and actually start.

I’m also going to lj-cut these, because they’ll be a bit on the long side.

cut to another page for length

So I tried to explain Football to Arianna. This didn’t quite work. She’s more resilient to football than I was in High School. This is saying a lot. What follows is a cut of our convesation and how I finally gave in (for this round):

Cut down for friends page. Use LJ cut link

Trying a poll

I’m contemplating starting a secondary LJ called “Dark Andrei” with materials I’m not always just blurting out for general read. It’s often stuff I want to talk about and feel that I need to talk about…but it’s not….standard fare.

So, I’ve decided to try the poll function to solicit opinions. If you read this…Please take the poll just so I can get a general idea…. In the end I’m going to set things up my way…However… My curiosity is piqued.

Poll after the lj cut (if it works)
