For those out of the area and for those that haven’t posted yet… at about 11:15 this morning, California woke up and stretched.
A 6.5 Earthquake hit Sam Simeon, California (and a nice 4+ aftershock)
If you live in California, go to the “Did you feel it?” link. Even if you didn’t feel it. This helps them learn a lot.
This is the 4th that I’ve felt. I wish I could find the words to explain how it feels. It’s like being in a boat and a small wave goes under the boat. You just sort of feel a little swaying floaty for about 5-10 seconds.
The location, Sam Simeon, is about halfway between L.A. and S.F. So, if we felt it in L.A. they probably felt it in S.F. And there may yet be more. There is a HIGH likelihood of a big aftershock.
So far there have been over 40 aftershocks in the area running from 2.1 to 4.7
« Whoo. Hit the bigtime! “An’ I’m Proud to be an American…” Fun, fun, fun…. »
Heh!
This is the first earthquake that I’ve actively felt even though supposedly there have been others since I’ve been here. This one kind of spooked me as I almost felt dizzy and natious. Oddly enough I was standing in a doorway talking to a coworker when it hit. I thought I was just feeling woozy or something but then her blinds moved and we realized what was happening. Ugh! I didn’t like it!
Earthquakes are really fun in 15 story buildings… I only remember feeling 1 that was fairly minor, but the circumstances were amusing. (I think I was 7 when this happened). My mom worked on the 14th or 15th floor. Went upstairs and went to the bathroom. I was sitting on the toilett and all of a sudden I just felt like I was swaying back and forth. After I got out my mom went and checked, and it was in fact an earthquake… It was a very low magnitude. Don’t remember what, but most ppl didn’t even feel it on the ground.
