Very busy day == listmania
Having been reintroduced to the drawing power of Amazon by chite showing me the world of wishlists. I have decided to make a Listmania list.
Effectively this is a way to put a group of items together in a list that you think is worth bundling. So… as I still haven’t gotten around to my musical quiz for mortals… Here to help you study is:
The 25 Must have stage musical collection on DVD (save 1)
The short form list is behind the cut with some added notes:
Hair
Godspell
Pippin
Jesus Christ Superstar
Into the Woods
Evita
Broadway’s Lost Treasures – Tony Award Performances from History
Sweeney Todd in Concert
Sunday in the Park with George
Cabaret
A Chorus Line
Chicago (Widescreen Edition)
Cats – The Musical (Ultimate Edition)
Fiddler on the Roof (Special Edition)
My Fair Lady
The Sound of Music (Single Disc Full Screen Edition)
The Music Man
West Side Story (Special Limited Edition Collector’s Set)
Little Shop of Horrors
Kiss Me Kate
The Fantasticks
Gypsy
Finian’s Rainbow
Brigadoon
The Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection – Sound of Music, South Pacific, King and I, Carousel, and… (sigh) Oklahoma
Now there are other Listmania music lists… There’s a few I missed. I only had room for 25 and was bound to miss a few that aren’t on my list. So, I’ll see what else I can add next time.
What did I miss on your list?

i’d have to add Big River.
I’d add 1776 and drop Into the Woods.
Did you mean to include Sound of Music twice? Yes, I know he first one is some sort of special edition, but you might have better uses for one of the slots.
Man of La Mancha still isn’t out on DVD, right?
My entirely opinionated comments on your list:
Hair — eh, never liked the music of this show all that much. But I’ve never seen the show, so it would be interesting to see the DVD I guess.
Godspell — was never interested in this show at all.
Pippin — I should see this one.
Jesus Christ Superstar — the recent video adaptation is also interesting but I prefer this version
Into the Woods — yes
Evita — Better than nothing, I guess. For an audio recording the original version with Julie Covington & Colm Wilkinson is by far the best.
Broadway’s Lost Treasures — interest in this would depend on what’s on it.
Sweeney Todd in Concert — I prefer the video of the staged version
Sunday in the Park with George — yes
Cabaret — never liked this show. Don’t really like Liza that much either.
A Chorus Line — I want to see this one.
Chicago (Widescreen Edition) — yes
Cats – The Musical (Ultimate Edition) — yes
Fiddler on the Roof (Special Edition) — yes
My Fair Lady — yes
The Sound of Music (Single Disc Full Screen Edition) — yes
The Music Man — yes
West Side Story (Special Limited Edition DVD Collector’s Set) — yes
Little Shop of Horrors — yes
Kiss Me Kate — Excellent version. The show’s OK though not one of my favorites. (Saw it in New York and in retrospect kind of wish I’d gone to see something more interesting.) Of course contains some great songs.
The Fantasticks — eh. Never cared about this show.
Gypsy — haven’t seen this, athough I know the music of the show moderately well. Would probably enjoy it.
Finian’s Rainbow — never cared about this show either.
Brigadoon — or this one. The movie’s OK I guess.
The Rodgers & Hammerstein Collection — I get bored by all these old musicals. R & H are mostly not my favorites. Too bland.
Shows I -really- wish I could get on DVD, which are either not available yet or never will be; pretty sure most of them were never filmed with original casts, at any rate, so it would have to be a revival project.
Merrily We Roll Along
Assassins
Pacific Overtures
(Hm, was there a theme there? I guess there was…)
City of Angels (Cy Coleman)
Ragtime (release pending)
Musicals available on video that you missed (unsure of DVD-release status):
Guys & Dolls (with Frank Sinatra)
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
Passion (Sondheim)
Oops, forgot _Porgy and Bess_ !
