For the longest time I had this belief that during the years of a “Saturn Return” (27-29) the average person leaks brain matter out of their ears in their sleep. This complex and convoluted sentence basically means, “Somewhere between my young adult years and adult years, I feel I’ve gotten stupider.”
Thanks, however, to a posting by songspell who took it from featheredfrog… I am pleased to see that the leak is slower than I thought. When you discover you have a track record of dating as many English Pedants as I have, this is always a nice validation ๐
OK Cupid’s World of Memes presents:
The Commonly Commonly Confused Words Test

English Genius
You scored 93% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 87% Advanced, and 83% Expert!
You did so extremely well, even I can’t find a word to describe your excellence! You have the uncommon intelligence necessary to understand things that most people don’t. You have an extensive vocabulary, and you’re not afraid to use it properly! Way to go!
Test statistics:
Compared to users who took the test and are and in your age group:
100% had lower Beginner scores.
100% had lower Intermediate scores.
100% had lower Advanced scores.
100% had lower Expert scores.
With respect to Beginner, users aged 55 to 59 scored highest.
With respect to Intermediate, users aged 55 to 59 scored highest.
With respect to Advanced, users aged 55 to 59 scored highest.
With respect to Expert, users aged 55 to 59 scored highest.
interesting….
Advanced
You scored 100% Beginner, 100% Intermediate, 93% Advanced, and 44% Expert!
You have an extremly good understanding of beginner, intermediate, and advanced level commonly confused English words, getting at least 75% of each of these three levels’s questions correct. This is an exceptional score. Remember, these are commonly confused English words, which means most people don’t use them properly. You got an extremely respectable score.
Thank you so much for taking my test. I hope you enjoyed it!

How odd.
This makes no sense.
“You scored 37% Beginner, 26% Intermediate, 12% Advanced, and 77% Expert!
Your test results are extremely interesting. Though your test scores in the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels weren’t very high, you got at least 75% of the expert level questions correct. Possibly you guessed very well in the expert level section? I don’t know what else to say. You puzzle me immensely. But….”
Um. You know me. And I *know* I got no more than 5 questions wrong. I am highly skeptical as to the accuracy of the test.
I’m annoyed by the fact that I scored higher in the “Advanced” section than almost anyone else I’ve seen, including you, but “didn’t qualify” in the “Expert” category. I’d be interested to know which of my answers the test disagreed with. Detailed results (which would amount to the test-maker’s personal opinion, at that level) ought to be made available.
Something seems odd here…
I get…You scored 93% Beginner, 86% Intermediate, 100% Advanced, and 88% Expert!
But then it says…Compared to users who took the test and are and in your age group:
* 100% had lower Beginner scores.
* 100% had lower Intermediate scores.
* 100% had lower Advanced scores.
* 100% had lower Expert scores.
And that just seems wrong. I noticed yours says the same (100% had lower…)
I be skeptical

I think I’m with the last comment. Something seems fishy here. I suppose I could have left out some of the both are ok things but I selected the best options and know I have a firm grasp of these things. I suppose I’m glad the test at least covered the things that irritate the hell out of me — they’re/their/there, insure/ensure. What really puzzles me is why would the person who wrote the test even include things like “She saw the movie before he had seen it.” Why in hell would you use different tenses?! Also, why use “;” when a sentence is clearly ended and you can use a “.”? Yep, there’s some opinion in there.
