This has been a hell of a day… week..month
Last night or early this morning at 12:05 while over with friends I went from healthy to doubled over in pain in about 15 seconds. It was a sudden manifestation of flu had occurred and brought with it a whole new form of pain. Basically it felt like I’d been stabbed or shot in the gut. (Left side).
shimmeringjemmy drove us home and I climbed into bed. I told her that I wanted to ‘sleep in’ to try to heal up. I took 2 fingers of Pepto and climbed into bed. I didn’t sleep exceedingly well. At 6 am I woke up suddenly. I was nauseous. Now for the sake of argument there are 2 different forms of nausea. There is the fake nausea that most of us have. It’s that queasy feeling that makes food repulsive to us. Then there is the real kind. The kind where the body feels chilled like the blood has drained from the body. Where you feel cold, clammy, and moist all at once. This is the body’s 30 second warning that something is about to happen and you damned well better find an acceptable receptacle. For ten to fifteen minutes I took time to appreciate that I hadn’t eaten in about 8 hrs.
I climbed back into bed with that delusion that I felt much better (despite the continuing stabbing pain) and fell asleep. That was when the nightmare hit. I’ve had nightmares that have horror type overtones. This was nothing like it. This was the hopeless nightmare of losing someone. I woke up clinging to H shaking.
I lay in bed for about 2 hrs now awake. I figure… if this doesn’t improve in 2 hrs then I’m going to the clinic. And 2 hrs later I’d driven the car the 2 1/2 blocks to the walk in clinic. A nifty factoid about the free-roaming Andrei. Andrei has a blood pressure of 125/72. For those who know blood pressures you will marvel at what could be viewed as a near perfect measure for just below average. It’s a healthy bp. My bp may at anyone time vary as much as 3% on either side. I explain this because at the clinic they read 90/72.
The doc interviewed me for a while as I try to deal with the lack of energy, killer headaches, dizziness, mild fake nausea bordering on the real stuff and of course the stabbing pain in my left side from hell. He ordered up X-rays, blood work, and my favourite cup. He even did that really personal test to have me cough for him. He said he had his suspicions.
It would seem that I am the proud winner of Diverticulitis. (Those of you who remember SNL’s Whiners can now laugh hysterically)… Let me tell you… this is not fun. I am going to spare the details of what this little ‘ailment’ is. But, the upshot is that I’ve been prescribed even more Vicodin. My house is becoming a warehouse for pain killers. And two killer antibiotics. Reading the drug warning labels has been an exploration into terror. While I’m pretty sure my eyes aren’t going to pop out, as for the other possible side effects. I think I’d be better off with the Dungeon Master’s Guide’s list of all the curses of the Teeth of Dahlver-Nar
These puppies are so strong that I am forbidden from drinking alcohol for the next 2 weeks. That’s right. I am going to do mass on Sunday with Juice.
>:-(
No offense but um… Can I make a call out from friends and loved ones to help me appeal to the gods to find out what the hell I did and how to appease them? Thanks
Yikes! That is no fun at all! I hope you get better soon.
You bet
I’ll remember you on circle at Yule as well as at Vortex Mass on Sunday. I looked up diverticulitis, ouch! Take care of yourself bro!
Altar warming up and magick be a flowing. In the mean time, lots of fiber and water Bro! That’s how my ol’ man beat it, you will too. Take care.
I’m familiar with this issue. Yucko. Um, eat more veggies and walk around a lot?
Is Diverticulitis
exacerbated by stress?
Love and hugs! Feel better soon.
Sure – what you did (along with umpty-percent plus of people in the developed nations) was not eat enough fiber for the last few decades. This increases the tendency to diverticulosis (pouches in the intenstines) and when one of those traps a bit of schmutz and it gets inflamed, voila – diverticulitis. IIRC, the figures are something like 80% of the population in countries that eat highly refined foods have some degree of diverticulosis by age 50, while it is something in the single digit percentages for people in countries where rough grains, etc. are still staples (though the life expectancies in some of those countries are low enough that they may just die a lot before developing the condition).
So once you heal up (and not before) start chowing down on that high fiber goodness, and dropping a few fiber pills every couple days. Your doctor may already have had a word to say on that subject.
As I recall, you don’t smoke – which is the other main contributor to episodes of diverticulitis, according to the literature. Congratulations – I found my first episode of diverticulitis so hideous that it finally got me off the weed two years ago (and I still had a second episode last summer, though not as ferocious as the first one).
I would also assume you are in line for the XIo preparation process…sorry, I mean for a colonoscopy. Fun fun fun.
Oh you poor thing; get well soon!
Woof. I went and looked this up (http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/) and you have my sincere good thoughts (I’ll cut your icon out and put it on my continuously burning crystal altar).
(After childbirth, with two very large babies, I had varieties of this. It is no fun, no fun at all. My sincerest empathy, as well.)
Nice Subject line… well, I offer up a prayer… light a candle… sacrifice a goat… dance naked around a fire painted blue (actually I was gonna do that anyway) whatever… to appease whatever gods you have pissed off…
Here is hoping that things get better soon… Oh and if you say Diverticulitis… can you say it in that voice… it always made me laugh.
Mmmmm yes, diverticulitis. It’s a big steaming bowl of suck. A few of my family members had/have it, so I’m quite familiar with the misery it causes.
I can’t really offer much in the way of advice but you certainly have my best healing energy and wishes.
ow ow ow ow ouch! Sorry to hear it, Bro. I haven’t had that one, but I have had a couple of occasions where I literally fell over feeling like there was a knife in my gut from other problems, no fun at all! I assume it’s the antibiotics that say no alcohol for two weeks? The “strength” is not [how drunk you will get], the problem is that combining certain antibios with alcohol can cause VERY DIRE liver damage — like drinking after taking a bottle of Tylenol. Because there are a number of ingredients in wine other than juice, to get those winish magickal benefits, I suggest trying a sparkling non-alcoholic wine — if you can find a non-alc wine that truly is 0% — instead of the juice. You are “on my altar”. Rest up, hope this passes soon.
Pray to the Gods and do a tarot reading to find out if this ailment is punishment to put this idea to rest. I am dead serious.
You are SO ready for some good luck. I think the gods must be storing it up for you somewhere and pretty soon you’re going to get a ton of it all at once. Be well soon!!
That’s the best description of the difference between real and fake nausea that I’ve ever heard. I’d given up trying to explain the difference to people who hadn’t had the pleasure of the experience.
The first time I had it, they found me passed out next to the commode. I’ve done everything in my power to avoid a repeat experience.
godsspeed on your recovery.
*long gentle hugs*
Want reiki, in addition to the more generic “get better soon” energy I’m sending your way?
*hugs*….
Gah! That sounds simply awful. I hope you heal up fast!
Argh! I’ll bet you the stresses you’ve had exacerbated the condition to where you noticed it. No doubt it’s been hanging around a while. Yes, this too runs in my family and seems to run hand in hand with IBS. The other guy up there is right, more fiber, presuming you aren’t allergic to most sources as I am. Also, it sounds stupid when you are doubled over with a knife in the gut but walking does help. I’ll offer up a lot of hope that this episode, um, passes quickly.
