Friday Five

1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
His name was Patrick. We went to private elementary school together. We briefly saw each other in a reunion I organized when I was about 19. We emailed very briefly about 4 years ago.

2. Are you still in touch with this person?
No. Our last email contact only lasted 2 messages. One each way. It seems that near the end of his life, my father was tapping everyone ever associated with himself or me for money. I fear that drove many of my old friends away. That and my lack of social graces until the age of about (looks at watch) last year.

3. Do you have a current close friend?
Happily many. Singling out shimmeringjemmy would be too obvious, but I’d be lax if I didn’t include w3woody and his wife… and for that matter just about everyone else in the L.A. area of my order.

4. How did you become friends with this person?
In shimmeringjemmy‘s case, despite foisting a bad apartment on her and other friends when I moved out, we found we had many common interests and world views thru LJ and it grew from there. With w3woody it grew over long, hard hours supporting the local group and working in proximity with him.

5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
A friend? The list could go on and on
Ken J. My best friend and oft-doppleganger from High School (1 of 2)
Carleen Knew me in college at my most awkward, so the worst and best of me… Our recent conversation via email didn’t really do much to get back in touch
Cindee My closest friend in college. And always too hip for Ohio
Badger-not-not-that-Badger Knew him in the SCA. Then he became a lawyer. We used to be twin brothers with matching birthmarks (a right arm) we were seperated at birth, we share the same father but never knew who the mothers were.
Sybel, Elizabeth, and Sean, and Paul the Simple My Pennsic Family
Holly and Kristie Two women I care about deeply as friends and beyond friends. Our last meetings were really bumpy and not our finest hours. I hope you are both doing well.
Marie (T)With Ken J and I , it was like the Scooby Gang with no Buffy. We were three time lords in search of a Tardis.
Missy “Twitch” Truly a dysfunctional H.S. relationship, but she was always cool and different to me.
Derek “Zaphod” There’s nothing I can really say here. 🙂
On reflection of Patrick… And Kristie…. I’d actually love to know how the whole Wyndcroft group is doing. And even the guys from Sunday School. Okay… well all of them except Michael S. He was the bully and I never liked him.

So many people have come and gone. I know I’ve never been much for letter writing. It’s why I like IM so much. I guess I just want to talk to these people like they are still around. Flashes of the past…. Flashes of what made me what I am today… Despite all the mistakes along the way. Because of all the successes.

Well, Thursday I had a phone interview with the tech lead at the company in Alameda, CA. Friday, I had a followup call from the HR department. Both calls went incredibly well.

Sadly, for those who don’t know the geography, Alameda is roughly 357 miles North West and this equates out to a 7 hr drive for Mass in Glendale. So, if this turns out to be my only offer, I will be joining a slew of colleagues who live in the Bay Area. (Waves to bk2w, desdemona612, jd5p, kimberly_a, namshubwriter, nixiekitten, prettyoctopussy, and anyone else I’ve missed) At least I know people up there.

I’m still shooting for an offer from my old company.

In other news, Heather has just gotten her EGC baptism and is currently unconscious in bed. She will no doubt report on this soon 🙂

I am going to begin my concerted effort to get caught up in LJ. I am going to go thru my list one by one (in my personal choice order) and read back for the past month for each person and community. This means you may get an odd response to something you posted about weeks ago. Or not.

This weekend I have two masses. One I am attending and one I am Deaconing for.

Oh yes, I guess I should make the public admission. I have been all approved and given the go-ahead. September 7th I will be performing the role of the Priest for Mass and afterwards I will be officially Ordained as a Priest in the EGC Clergy.

Yay, spirituality. Yay, Magick.

So where is my killer job offer from Apple?
