Home again. Recap on last day at the con:

Trailer Park: Saw coming attractions for films over the next two years: Underworld which is sort of a Vampire and Lycanthrope story crossed with Romeo and Juliet. But emphasis on the, “Gosh, let’s look like the Matrix” rather than having a story.

Also a pleasant surprise, “Kill Bill” the new 2 part movie from Quenten Tarantino, who appeared along with Darryl Hannah and some other cast members. Tarantino talked about the movie. Looks really cool. Someone asked him what was really in the briefcase. He gave the best answer a director could, “What do you think is in the briefcase? It doesn’t matter what I think is in there.”

Later was the Fox preview for next season. Three shows: “Tru Calling” the new Eliza Dushku action (pseudo-)supernatural series. “Still Life” which is 7th Heaven meets Wonder Years modern day. This time the narrator is the dead son. So add in a touch of American Beauty. Then there was a comedy whose name I can’t remember about a Daria like girl who can hear inanimate objects talk to her. This one showed the most promise.

Back to Tru Calling. I guess I’d call it “Run Lola Run” meets “Quantum Leap”

Series synopsis behind a cut to avoid spoilers…

Well, for the first time in many years I did not attend the voice actor seminars. Between Joss Whedon and the Buffy/Angel writers… It was quite an afternoon.

Whedon is comitted to bring a killer set of dvd’s for firefly out by the summer. They believe they may actually have too many commentaries on the upcoming B&A DVDs.

The LJ get together was not surprisingly a great failure. I must plan ahead. (somewhat standard problem)

Today is trailer park, eliza dushku’s new series and feedback forum. More later. I am online already for something not starting for an hour.

Whedon in 5 minutes. Some cartoons to watch for: Game Over with Patrick Warburton, futurama is now on cartoon network and tbs. They are hoping to produce more. Simpsons… Groening has no intention of ever ending the series. And then there is cartoon networks 2 new entries:

Duck Dodgers. Guys, this is funny. Bob berger is an amazing Porky and the voice artis for Daffy is amazing. CN is also starting a new teen titans (premiering tonight) with a real anime j-pop feel. It’s aimed at 7-8 yr olds but looks good for all. The theme (a singable superhero theme song) is by “Puffy” a japanese group.

Also shown was an unaired futurama that was uproariously hilarious with a redone theme with the voice artist who does bender adding in a beatbox sound and billy west on additional vocals. Very hot.

Whedon in 3 minutes more soon.

2 down 2 to go…

I was a good boy today and didn’t buy anything in the dealer’s room. Heather spent the money today… She will post at her own time 😉

I went to the voice tryouts. I hate to say, it truly, TRULY sucked. The room was not big enough for everyone who showed and the old voice artists who did it, brought up groups of 10-15 to try to pick out a voice for a circa 50’s cartoon caracture.

This seminar was made further annoying by an audience member I hate to admit remembering for last year’s voice sessions. This guy was probably the class clown everyone hated. He acts like every session he is in is merely a vehicle for his audition. Every question is answered with a loud, inappropriate silly voice. Even (and especially) the ones not directed to him or the audience.

I got autographs today from Mark “V” Singer. I had a short chat with Mark “Groosalug” Lutz, and had a nice short chat and signing with Robia “Jenny Calendar” LaMorte. Who in person looks younger than Charisma Carpenter did at the time ‘Jenny’ appeared on the show.

I went to a farscape forum. Of the cast, chriton, cries/pilot, scorpious, zaan, and rigel were there. As well as ben browder’s wife, one other actor I didn’t recognize and the writer. Richard… Something. Gosh look at my fan level. I liked the show… It was just not scheduled where I could catch it all the time. The panel was infectious and fun. Browder called ‘aeyrn’ on his cell phone and the crowd left a grand amount of cheering as a message. Missing were her as well as anthony simcoe and gigi edgely. Farscape fanatics, please do not reply with corrections. I am on the sidekick and am just as capable of looking up imdb too 🙂

We were hoping to hit the Mark Hammel panel on his new flik “Comic Book, the Movie” but we also needed food. By the time we got back the major hall was SRO and no one was getting in.

shoeboxbird and her friend Rob who are sharing the hotel with us made a photo finish to the registration line and got there at 7, just before they closed.

We opted not to stay for Spike & Mike’s twisted. We came back and Heather and I coiled on the couch and caught the second half of Spider-man on HBO. And crashed.

Well it’s 8:30am on Saturday now…

There is a lot of good looking stuff today. This includes the good voice session with James Alberg, a Kevin Smith session, Joss Whedon, Buffy and Angel writers, the new Duck Dodgers cartoon series, and of course the masquerade. There will also be an LJ get together at the mezanine level at 6pm. I am hoping they will post this.

So much to see and do… And well… Whatever else.

Day 2, comic-com

Currently, it is raining while we wait for the shuttle to the con from the hotel. I am wiping the sidekick screen as I type.

Well, we left Wednesday headed for San Diego and comic-con 2003. Heather has 9 pieces of art on display in the art show. We left at about 12:30 but hit an impressively small amount of traffic. We got there at 4, parked at the con centre ($8 ka-ching) and brought the art in.

This was my first time at any con with someone showing something. Granted, finding your way around on preview day is tricky. We got in and heather went into what I can only refer to battle mode. Heather had laid out the arrangement at home on the floor. That much wasn’t bad. My job was to fetch clips and hold wire and in general stay the f&^$ out of the way.

Having been in pre-show as a director… I know the feeling.

We got our badges and went to the dealers room. Now, believe it or not… We were there for about 2 hrs. We wandered 15 rows and that covered about 10% of the floor show. I mean this thing is fricking huge. I spent another 4 hrs yesterday in there and still only covered about 50%

I didn’t attend many seminars. I saw a promo for a new cable channel in search of a cable distributor. Anime network. And I went to a class for actors to help them get hired. This was a surprisingly great class. I approached it as a director. This put me slightly ahead of the curve.

Afterwards we chatted with the teacher for about an hour in a smaller surrounding.

Well, so far I have managed to spend slightly too much money on dvd’s and vids. (anime and 70’s tv) I have also purchased a script from the final buffy. I only talked to on actor on the autograph circuit. Danny Strong, who played Jonathon on BtVS. I have an idea for a book… Again. Maybe I will explore this one. Shrug.

It’s nice not to think about work… But I must go back soon. Today’s classes include a voice workshop with demo reel given to participants (YUMMMMM!)

Well, we are about to turn left onto Harbour Drive and are 2 blocks from the con center. Day 2… Here we go….
