Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead
Caveat: This is a rant. It is mean spirited and lashes out against someone. Please do not take it as a defining point of who I am. It’s just something I want to get out of my system. Thank you.
I will be completely honest. When I watch the Academy Awards I really get emotional seeing all the celebrities that passed over the last year. Creative people who made a mark on media.
That being said… I am finding it really f&#*ing hard to have any respect for someone who I’ve heard more about dead than alive. I don’t care who she is. I don’t care who she dated. And I really don’t care that she was a playmate of the year in 93. I don’t care that she may or may not have been a gold-digger.
At least Norma Jean had talent and added to media history.
I realize this is cold and callous but I really feel like this is an engineered story for the masses and we really don’t need this kind of stuff anymore. There are good people out there who accomplish things every day. And they don’t get one – one MILLIONTH the attention that the crap in the tabloids sell.
Personally, I’d like to hear more of the good… and have to hear less of the trash.
Feel free to respond to this with something you feel you’ve accomplished. Something you feel good about. No matter how minor or inconsequential you might feel.
feel free to pass this on. Maybe we can actually get a feel of good news worth sharing.
(Fuddy duddy… signing off)

As I said to a friend, I deeply mourn the passing of Anna Nicole. Why? Because it means we’ll be seeing even more of Lindsay Lohan’s talentless, skeletal ass in the news to fill the vacuum.
Welp, as I said in someone else’s lj — there was something about her that I liked. I found her fascinating and revolting and I’m savoring all the media coverage. 🙂
We raked the lawn today, did laundry, re-potted her little plant while I cut & painted new moulding for the bathroom, and we made dinner & did more laundry…all of which is more than she’s done. It’s been a productive day.
And I am now rather drunk.
I have always found it humorous that when we loathe something .. we spend so much time and energy talking or raging about it. Maybe its healthy. I don’t know.
For me something that I am proud of – All 4 years of high school I was on the yearbook staff. In my Senior year I was Financial Manager and that was the only year in the history of our School did the yearbook come out in the black. We didn’t have to borrow a single cent to pay for its production. Of course, it helped that me and my Co-Editor sold almost $5,000 in ads!!! I miss those times.
Quick, everyone! Look over there! Blonde, dead, tragic bimbo! Pay no attention to that troublesome war in Iraq, the lairs and robber barons in public office, and the fact that our planet is strangling on its own waste.
Good things:
Hrm.
I’ve started giving my diabetic kitty insulin shots. This combined with a vet visit back in December has brought her from death’s door to a new lease on life. She’s more energetic, her fur is long and lush again, she’s eating like a horse, and she’s terrorizing the other cat in the house. She’s been my beloved companion for 16 years, so I’m very happy about her recovery.
Tuesday, I’m doing one of my regular youth outreach stints. I’m always proud and happy when I do those. If I can encourage even just *one* kid enough to reach for a college degree who might not have otherwise, I feel like I’ve made the world a better place.
Various positive things:
-Although the workaholic in me is a bit unnerved, i’ve been giving myself a break and actually practicing self-care and not overworking. Funny, i find that i am more productive when i am healthier! What a surprise!
-Went to Spain on a vacation (see above for why this is an accomplishment) and it rocked!
-Thanks to psychospunk’s time and effort, he got a great design for our hall floor tile, which was recently completed and looks fab.
-Read an EXCELLENT book entitled “Fool the World”, which is a history of the Pixies, and i HIGHLY recommend it! If you aren’t familar with the Pixies, I recommend listening to “Doolittle”, one of their best albums. They were amazing.
-Also seen some great films this past year, among which are: Little Miss Sunshine; Saved!; The Aviator; A Scanner Darkly; Clerks 2; Superman Returns.
I single-handedly concocted National Veterans Coming Out Day successfully enough that it was a “front page” feature on gay.com for three full days, along with several dozen LGBTI veterans bios on aver.com
I created a web template for a dept. at Kent State U that in 2003, which is still in use currently.
I adopted a Manx kittie, from the local ASPCA, who had been in “foster care” for a full year at the point of adoption. She has repaid me by keeping me alive several times 🙂
and very important to me, my cat, and my lack of six legged tenants — I washed some dishes and took out my garbage!
wow, just got home and realized I can’t even cite my own dang web creation — aver.us
Well, about that Anna Nichole then
The thing is, you aren’t interested in her, so the coverage isn’t for you. It’s aimed at all the people who have heard of her, liked her, and are saddened by her death. I’m sure there are many public figures who’s death would sadden you but wouldn’t mean much to others. Personally I liked her because I watched her reality show (Yep, I just said that, and publicly too. I watched her reality show :-). She was genuine and sweet and really entertaining. I enjoyed watching her take her inheritance battles all the way to the supreme court, instead of just saying “You’re right, I’m unworthy” like people expected she should. I appreciated the message I saw her sending, which was – “I am who I am, full on, without meanness. I’m living my life. Don’t afraid to be who you are, t’s all you can do if you’re honest.” She was easy to criticize. Trailer trash upbringing that she never tried to hide, lots of issues, party girl all the way. I liked her, I’m interested in her life and death, and no, ‘fraid I just don’t see where that’s a problem for anybody else. There it is.
