I’m looking for the all-time list of, “Boy you spent all that time learning…. that?”
Here’s the list I’ve come up with so far.
Phase one is my list. If I’ve missed something please comment.
Also.. some things are not quite as impressive as others. So if something should be dropped… tell me.
- The Elements – Tom Lehrer
- The Nations of the World – Animaniacs
- Alice’s Restuarant – Arlo Guthrie
- It’s the End of the World as We Know It – REM
- Albuquerque – Weird Al Yankovic
- Johann Gamboputty – Monty Python
- Existential Blues – Tom “T-Bone” Stankus
- We Didn’t Start the Fire – Billy Joel (suggested by tygeressdenacht)
- Modern Major General – Pirates of Penzance (suggested by docscarabus)

What about learning the whole preamble to the Constitution thru SchoolHouse rock?
Though I hate responding to anonymous posts…
I thought about something from Schoolhouse Rock.. But they were designed to be memorized to help people learn. So it was common for an entire class to know these things. I know that in my grade school class we were ALL humming the Constitution music during a test.
I was going for those really long, complex lyrics, why the hell would you bother… kind of selections.
Re: Though I hate responding to anonymous posts…
The 12 Days of Christmas.
Existential Blues before or after the C&D?
I remember the change was the removal of a line from Man of La Mancha.. But I’m not sure what the “C&D” is that you’re referring to.
“Such predicaments, I must forge ahead!”
STILL love the damn song.
What about “We Didn’t Start The Fire…”
? Do you know that one all the way.. and do you know the year 2000 edit?
Just curious. š
I thought the 2000 edit was an urban legend and he never actually added another verse.
As for my knowing it. Iwas working Q-102 when that came out. I know if far tooooo well.
But a good call. Adding it to my list above.
I was up the year and heard the edit. There was another verse. It is not urban myth. However, I’ve never been able to find another copy of it since. It was really well done and I wish I could find it again or I wish he’d release it again.
“Modern Major General”
US States and their Capitals-Animaniacs
The Philosopher Song, Monty Python.
“A lovely little thinker but a bugger when he’s pissed!”
I figured it’s kinda short and would be the second entry from Monty Python.
I didn’t know if multiple entries were worth it because there’s so much from Weird Al, Lehrer, Monty Python, etc.. that would just add to the list.
but if several ppl thing this should be on the list… I’d add it.
What, no Barenaked Ladies?
