From the Law offices of “Dewey, Cheetham, and Howe”…
The are certain family names that should just avoid certain lines of work. I don’t doubt that these people have the talent to fill the position. I just think that naming their business after their names might be bad.
The example I saw recently:
Machetti’s Hair Stylist.
(And that’s a biiiig blade)
Can anyone come up with other good ones for a list?
First off, yes. I’m in the office.
I like getting in early at the a&$crack of dawn. It’s 35-45 minutes in/out without traffic. So I get in around 5:30-6:15 and I leave around 3 (assuming I’m not running late due ot the work load)
The radio this morning was going on about how Solstice is at 5:26 (6 minutes now)… The beginning of summer and the time of the year when the Druids let the local pagans actually get close to Stonehenge.
Unfortunately, much like when the millenium started, the radio didn’t seem to get it quite right.
They kept announcing today as, “The longest day of the year.”
Now, I may be wrong, but as far as I can tell, the solstice time is the pivot across the tropic of cancer. So the days start getting shorter again. Theoretically that means that today might have less day than yesterday. Granted the solstice point was closer to today than yesterday.. so it might be today.
Sometimes Astonomy/Astrology makes my head spin. (4 minutes)
IF will be celebrating this evening. So hopefully this will be a quick and not-to stressful (long) day at work.
Guess that’s it for this morning. The clock on the desktop says 5:25am so 1 minute and counting.
(waits and stares at the desktop clock)
5:26 am. Happy Solstice, Happy crossing of the Tropic of Cancer….
Happy 24 hour day people north of Alaska.
Woot
Caveat: This was posted on my behalf by request by someone who has electronic access to post on my behalf from outside Washington state without my password. I did not actually make this post. But the person didn’t have my password so I am not in violation of Washington State Law or LJ Terms of Service
If you haven’t heard by now, the Washington state gov’t rushed thru a law transforming not only any gambling on the internet, but summarily any discussion of wagers or gambling information.
By rushed thru I mean
January 17 : the law was proposed
February 3: Senate Labor Commitee added: knowingly transmitting or receiving wagers or other gambling information
February 14: passed bi-partisan with no opposing votes in the Senate
March 2: passed bi-partisan 93-5 in the House (now looping in i-net sales of Lottery tickets)
March 28: Signed into law by the Governor.
That is 86 days to write and pass a law. Remember that the next time your unemployed worker benefits run out.
Just to put it in perspective.. here is what a class C felony is in Washington
Bestiality
assault on a child in the third degree
custodial sexual misconduct in the first degree
third degree rape
four DUI’s in seven years
second degree assault
sex and labor trafficking
unlawful taking on endangered fish and wildlife
robbery (1 count)
animal fighting abuse.
The penalty for a class C felony is:
60 months in prison and a $10,000 fine.
You can now add to that:
a 25 cent bet on PartyPoker
Granted, some might argue the penalty is more appropriate for going “all-in” before the flop with less than a pair of jacks in PartyPoker $5 + .50 tournament.
That being said…
Doesn’t this smack just a little of thought crime and violation of the right to free speech?
Edit: Ironically, no one from Washington can actually comment on this post as that would be an example of discussing Gambling in the state and they would be liable for a Class C felony.
