First off there is WinExposé
A company has developed and is selling an Apple technology for Windows. They didn’t even opt to change the names. We’ll judge the success of this product on whether or not they paid for the patent rights. If not… expect this company and product to be gone within 2 months.
And from the desk of fuego who does tech support for the Mac:
…so I get this call from a woman wanting to know where the solitaire game was on her computer…I tell her that Macs don’t ship with solitaire, but it can be downloaded all over the internet. She asks me to walk her through downloading because she doesn’t know how to download, then she changes her mind and says she’s not sure she made the right descision buying a mac if it doesn’t come with solitaire.
she’s seriously thinking about taking the computer back (she only got it yesterday)
Ladies and Gentleman. Let me make my first recommendation that this person does in fact need a Dell. It’s all about Solitaire.
I wonder how many Mac users we’ll lose when they find out we don’t package Minesweeper by default either.
You’d be surprised how many people buy PC’s to, effectively, play solitaire. During my days at Gateway, I had many calls from people who claimed this was the primary use of the system.
However, it’s a bad idea for Apple to ship without these items. Why? They aren’t there as cool games. They’re subliminal computer training programs. Solitaire teaches you basic mouse functions. Minesweeper teaches you advanced mouse functions and precision (small squares require precise aim, right-clicking, etc). Hearts was a quick and dirty way to test both the Win32 libraries back in the Windows 3.1 era and to test basic networking capabilities with the old ‘Hearts Network’.
Microsoft NEVER releases something because it’s neat, they always have an ulterior motive. đŸ™‚

at my previous job would sit there and play Minesweeper for hours every day. He was always bragging about how fast he could finish, and I admitted that his times were pretty damn impressive. One day I happened to pass by his cube while he was at it, and I saw why he was so fast. He was turning the mines on and clicking on them as fast as he could!
I haven’t been able to play that game since.
And thus, we know the reason why Windows sell loads of copies, and Macs don’t. It’s because Mac geeks know so much better than the people who are in the store paying the check.
If you guys actually listened to what your customers want instead of smirking in a superior manner, you might sell something.
And since solitaire is one of the oldest surviving games known to mankind, it’s obviously a good game. Why the hell shouldn’t someone say that if their computer doesn’t have it, they aren’t satisfied? It’s their money, their choice to make for themselves, not yours to make for them.
On another angle, it strikes me that this attitude is *exactly* the reason why Macs *still* ship with a mouse with only one button, despite all common sense saying it’s entirely stupid to do so.
