I think it’s actually a mistake to assume that, at some point in Leave it to Beaver land, that ‘relationships actually worked’. From the journaling I’ve read, from most walks of life, it wasn’t so much that relationships worked, they were simply so mis-balanced power-wise that no real correlation can be drawn.
And yeah, there are people who hide money from their spouses. I am bewildered at this thought, but then I’m *horrified* every year around christmas, when car manufacturers start showing the commercials where so-and-so has bought a car as their spouse’s Yule present. Personally, if my husband made that kind of financial decision without including me, I’d be spending Christmas evening in jail for murder…
