AH yes.. I too remember.. and though I was not a fan, my father was. So I was very familiar with this.
Was it you that was mentioning that Vinko Bogataj, the “Agony” skier, wasn’t aware of his fame until some 20 years later when he was invited to the 30th anniversary of the Wild World of Sports some 20 years later, and was asked for his autograph.
He joked some years later after getting into a car crash on the way to an interview with ABC, that everytime he’s on ABC, he crashes!
As for McKay, I not only recall him hosting this show, but I remember his coverage of various Olympic games as well.
He will be remembered.
Jim McKay stands out to me…
As many remember Wolf Blitzer under the table during Desert Storm…
I remember being very young and watching Jim McKay report on the Israeli masacre at the Munich Olympics in 1972.
So to me… he was a fairly important Sports Journalist.
