We are preparing to spend a weekend at Faerieworlds.

I’ve gone thru the website looking at several things. The midnight movies at first felt cliché (Labyrinth and Dark Crystal)… but then I noticed the films were going to be introduced by Brian Froud… and it went from cliché to Oh my Gods faster than a sports car goes from 0-60.

So.. I went to the forum to explain that the web store links are broken. And I poked around the site some more and then I saw it.

In very small print at the top of the page:

Faerieworlds LLC Presents

And then the Faerieworlds logo.

Now… let’s take a moment.

Consider the wandering fae (Read the statement preceding with the same dramatic incompetence as an out of work L.A. Bartender saying, ‘consider the lilly’)

But I digress. Consider the wandering fae…

A nature spirit tied to nothing, a trickster, wisdom and innocence melded into one puff of light, wings, and dust. A creature of magick that one can destroy by not applauding for them. They come from the realm of elves, unicorns, and films that never make back their cost or get awards.

Now take a breath…

Let’s talk about LLCs. This stands for Limited Liability Company.

From wikipedia this is: a legal form of business company offering limited liability to its owners. It is similar to a corporation, and is often a more flexible form of ownership, especially suitable for smaller companies with a limited number of owners. Unlike a regular corporation, a limited liability company with one member may be treated as a disregarded entity, so the member is often singled-out as a person performing the actions of the LLC. A limited liability company with multiple members is typically treated as a partnership for tax purposes, thereby avoiding double taxation.

Now I want you to put yourself in the image.

The corporate board room with the obsidian desk and the $40,000 AV equipment. The CEO’s chair spins around and one of Lady Cottington’s pre-pressed victims is sitting there with a Cigar. “The numbers for 2005’s festival were off and 2006’s were flat. What are we going to do about this.”

I’ll let your mind wander.

Wookies don’t deserve medals.

No matter how much they help, all they get to do is stand at the ceremony and growl.

(the all famous, all pronouncing, all everything) THEY say admitting you have a problem is half the battle.

I thought about this this morning while working on code.

I thought… well, admitting there is a problem is half the battle.
Finding the problem is half of what is left
Identifying and understanding the specifics of the problem is half of what’s left
finding the solution to the specific problem is half of what is left
implementing the solution is half of what is left.
Testing that this was the right solution is half of what is left.
Accepting the change is half of what is left.
Leaving extra room for all the other problems you’ll need to fix once you’ve fixed this one.

That’s right. Fixing yourself is hard because it is the ultimate Zeno’s Paradox.

Ironic Spam

One of the latest waves of spam has been “Penny Stocks”

These are spams for small companies that are traded on markets. The only problem is that the Markets that you’ve heard of… “Dow Jones, Nasdaq, AMEX, etc” won’t touch them because they are (if you’ll forgive me) small change.

Pretty much any stock trading under $1.50 per share is just too damned volatile to consider.

One of my Penny Stock Spams was for a company that specializes in new technology.

their tech?
…a leader in the fight against email based viruses, spam, and outbound threats of corporate espionage….

Trading at $0.11 per share on August 2 they haven’t actually traded any shares since.

So, there’s an obvious longer post coming today. But a short comment or two first.

Saw a red-ribbon today. This was for supporting AIDS… Or. Aids awareness. I had to ask to be reminded which one was for breasts. Well, Okay.. Breast Awareness.. Or more correctly breast cancer awareness. (Pink)

This evening I looked up awareness ribbons.

Much like a badly designed C++ class it’s great to see how each colour has been overloaded or avoided.

There’s red: which ironically besides AIDS awareness, is also for Pro-Life awareness. It also stands for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome awareness… So you may want to verify your red ribbon wearer is actually championing someone who might not survive.

Then there’s Orange: This is for motorcycle safety as well as feral cats. (No, I’m not kidding)

Periwinkle is for eating disorders. Which too me is kind of cool, ’cause the colour makes me want to vomit.

But my favourite has to be Green Ribbons. Green firstoff is for “safe driving, bipolar disorders, ovarian or prostate cancer.” But most importantly it’s for Tourette’s syndrome awareness.

So, I think I’m gonna start wearing a green ribbon. If people ask, I can look them square in the eye and say:

“Green? What the f*#& is Green for on a ribbon, mo&$er-f*&#er? I’ll f&#(in’ tell you what the g&d-d*mn, sh&#-su&^ing green F(*&in’ ribbon is for, you a&#h*&^. &*# 9#*&#& (*&#&!!!
