Hard to fight the feeling that I’ve stopped being shiny and as a result have completely been dropped from my communities.

It’s LJ, have to post like this at least once in a while.

Well, okay. Jan 1st through Feb 1st

We have two events where we’re planning TV nights in front of the big Hi-Def centrepiece of our our living room.

On January 20th… “Yes, I won’t… be going to D.C.” But we will be bringing D.C. to our house. Realising that the footage I watched in November looked like, “Washington, NYC, Kenya, Coriscant…” that we need to continue the celebration that evening. So the house will be open to share and watch MORE NEWS COVERAGE.

This of course can be very serious. So there must be mindless violent balance.

So! February 1st… Come join us as we root the Steelers as they become the first team to win 6 Superbowls. Anyone who feels the need to point out that the Steelers haven’t even played in the playoffs yet have obviously missed the point 😉 We are a Steelers house, but we’re also a fair football house. Meaning we recognize good plays even when they happen against our team. We also actually enjoy rating the commercials.

So… standard drill. Comment if you want to come. Pot luck welcome (moreso on Superbowl Sunday) but not necessary. An hour of reduced noise requested during toddler bed time.

Looking forwards to seeing folks.

Back into my cave of seeming to be anti-social.

Oh, yeah. Go read my blog.

We’re not holding the ‘party’ per se.

But if friends want to drop by and spend the evening (some crash space available) please drop a comment here.

Feel free to pass the message around.

I’m standing on a long line in front of a pair of Asian women. They began carrying on a conversation in <<Insert glyph based language I sure as hell don’t know>>. Normally, when on line, if you hear a conversation near you, you casually acknowledge it and may jump in or pay attention to it.. if it seems appropriate.

While the U.S. doesn’t have a standard, primary language… I find the use of non-English in the US is a way for a group to cordon themselves off. It sets up an intentional wall in a manner similar to installing a fence around your yard.

While language may be foreign… tone, body language, aren’t.

I found myself paying attention to the conversation I didn’t understand. I was riding along with the tone. And found myself chuckling at a pause point that felt like a humourous statement.

I found the one woman unnerved that I chuckled with her friend. It was as if I’d walked through her gate. She seemed to be wondering. “Oh, crap. Does he speak my language?”

So not eavesdropping. But a very interesting sociological and psychological experiment.
