In the past 12 months, I would say that I have filled out roughly 300 job applications in my field. None have yielded a position.

Looking at job positions today, I felt I should help the younger aspiring engineers by explaining the “HR speak” that they will find in job application requirements in our field.

I suppose I should add that this is satire and that I actually like working in our industry, but I may as well grab the lion by the tail and shake a bit anyways.

Comments are welcome on this including additions, corrections, and suggestionsWhy yes, I'm taking metrics on this post.
Here’s the current list, tell your friends

So, despite the driving positive emotions that I will be offered a job Thursday or Friday I still keep my options open and keep pushing my resume out there.

Today I received a note from a recruiter:
Hello,

My name is name and I am a VP sales, at company. I found your resume on the Internet. You seem to have the necessary qualifications and background for our requirements.

Location- San Francisco CA
Duration- 6 months to one year

We need someone who has a LOT of MICROSOFT WINDOWS development experience. Candidate must have strong experience in C++, COM, WIN32 API, and Windows programming. Additional qualifications such as those listed below are highly desirable.

Experience developing COM/DCOM components is required.
Knowledge/Experience with MAPI and/or WinINet API is highly desirable.
Working knowledge of the Browser Helper Object, COM Plug-In, or Office SDK is a plus.
Working knowledge of the Outlook Object Model, Browser Object Model, or XML DOM is a plus.
Understanding of Windows Registry and Windows File System is desirable.

Please note: The following terms do not exist on my resume anywhere:
MICROSOFT WINDOWS development experience, COM, COM/DCOM,MAPI ,WinINet API, Browser Helper Object, COM Plug-In, Office SDK, Outlook Object Model, Browser Object Model, Windows Registry, Windows File System

What drives me batty is the concept that some VP decided that because I lack 90% of the required experience, I “…seem to have the necessary qualifications and background for our requirements.

Didn’t our industry used to actually have a shred of respect?

With all the bad IM’s I get. With all the really badly worded and designed memes.

Someone finally got the right solution.

I’d advise you to check out Isolatr… But it’d really defeat the point.

I use two IM programs at once. iChat and Adium

Yes, for those who haven’t figured it out yet… I am a Mac person.

I use iChat for my primary AIM account. I use Adium for all my other accts: yahoo, msn, ICQ, private AIM, lurking accts. No… I do not have an IM account as a 14 year old girl. (Shudder, those people scare me)

Since ICQ has “Authenticate to add” requirements for seeing a person’s online status, I will occasionally get random auth requests. My policy, is that I don’t add anyone I wouldn’t be interested in talking to. Now, the auth request will often include a message. For example, “Thanks for the chat, here’s the auth request you said I could send.”

Today I got another random auth request. The message was along the lines of (actual link read and promptly forgotten):

User 153#8#4# is requesting authentication: The message is:

I like Adium/ICQ because you not only can deny authentication, but you can send a message back as well explaining the denial.

So… feeling extremely gregarious (and for those who know me really well there will be some humour in the irony of me choosing that word), I sent a simple explanation as to why I was denying authentication:

Spam spam spam. Die die die. Please log off and never use a computer again, you are a child with no sense of what the Internet is to be used for.

All the while envisioning Ling Ling (from “Drawn Together”) attacking. Which has now been added as a new icon for future posts.

Is it just me?

Somewhere between March 6 and 11 I stopped receiving any comments by email.

Is anyone receiving comments and does anyone have a link to status on this?

Thanks.

(Returns to actually catching up on comments that he didn’t know he’d received)
