Many of you have seen Rob Paravonian’s amazing treatise on Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
This is a very interesting take on the piece.

I hope I don’t run out of time. I think I want to reserve for Poi but I have to check schedules and family first.
It should be okay… and K said he could maybe take a couple extra, as long as people took turns and staggered the timing of the lessons…. & you know, the family could come down with you & just hang out while you were spinning… *grins*
It’s a great piece, but the juxtaposition I find the most interesting is that Pachelbel’s piece is so simple and the scratching/beatboxing goes a wee bit over the top trying to compete with simplicity.
I think it was Miles Davis who talked about taking notes out to make jazz, rather than trying to cram them in.
I find there are several schools of Jazz
There is of course the subtractive school. There is the addiive school (Very Ella Fitzgerald and Yellowjackets)
And then there is the ‘Turn Left at Albuquerque’ school: Dave Brubeck.
When you get musical crossover like this… there is that balance between the purity to new style (good beatbox) vs. respect for original.
