So… for the past 24-48 hours… I have been.. unwell

Thanks to some medsĀ (today) … I’m starting to get some sense of normalcy back…slowly.

Unfortunately, I haven’t really had much to eat. Maybe 2-3 bananas. Some saltines, some water and the high point… A jelly on rye bread sandwich.

I figured I’d look on line for ‘what to eat on a sour stomach/suffering from d**’

And I found tonnes of lists.

The part that’s got me “oiked” off… Every BLOODY list is the same.

1) Don’t eat this
2) cut out this
3) Avoid this
4) reduce intake of this
5) stop eating this
6) Stop drinking this.

In the words of the masters: Can we stop talking “YAMA” here. I need some dietary NIYAMA.

I don’t have a lot of energy to begin with. If I’m spending all my time going, “Nope, not that” I’m too damned tired when I get to something and go… Hmmn, not on the list. Wonder if it’s safe.

Sigh.

I have often posted about probably my all time favourite film. “Escape to Witch Mountain”

Thanks to a link by shadesong it looks like Disney is going to take another poke at the venerable film. Like anyone else who loves a classic film or book… this makes me fidgety in a ‘not so good’ way.

There are so many pieces of this original film that just work so well together. The original preview for the film was pretty much excerpts from the intro with several clips cut in. The music was haunting and riveting. This coupled with the simple images left me (at about the age of 8) contemplating the mystical symbolism of the title, the children running, and of course the animated dogs.

For those that haven’t seen this (and those that just want the nostalgia rush); I attach the opening 3 minutes of the film. This is predominantly the film intro with credits. I suggest headphones or a quiet room.

This is a film that lives in my library and I am MORE than happy to show it to anyone who is curious.

P.S. This one stands alone. The sequel, the remake, the pilot. None have the magic that this film carried.

Final note: This isn’t so much trivia as I don’t know the answer; but I’d be thrilled if someone out there did. The original film is credited to be based on the book of the same name. I, however, remember that there was some legal fluff that the book itself was based (plagiarized) off another story. The title was along the name of, “The People”… It’s about a woman (School teacher?) who comes to a quiet town and discovers a quiet bunch of folks. The interesting characteristic is that everyone in town shuffles their feet. She later discovers this is out of fear that they will fly (from Telekinesis) A town full of people hiding and ashamed of their abilities.

Any info on this story (which was became a made-for-tv movie) would be VERY appreciated.

That’s all for this morning.

Well, it’s been 6 months since Genetics kicked me in the nuts and made it completely obvious to me that aiden_freeman is undoubtably ‘of my loins’

So, now at 18 months…it’s time to take a look at some of the other genes. I’ve pulled out the old photo of me and this time added in one of shimmeringjemmy

Pictures behind the cut

Back on the first a little after 6pm I received a text message on my phone:

“Hey, off the top of your head do you know what 255 would be in base 8?”

About 15 minutes later the following came in:

“Never mind. Figured it out. 255=377 In base 8/ octal”

So… now the weirdness.

The sending cell number isn’t one I recognize. Not only don’t I recognize it… it comes from a part of the country that I know absolutely no one in. “Florence”, South Carolina.

I quote Florence because prefixes in cell phones are widely inaccurate as to the origin of the owner. Admittedly, some times the area codes are misnomers too.

My cell phone number puts me in Van Nuys, California.

So.. with no signature… I’m left trying to figure out who the hell would text me a number conversion question on Saturday evening who’s phone originated in SC.

Oooh, mystery!

Yes, I know the short form is to just reply… But I don’t necessarily want to identify myself if this is some new spam/phish thing.
